Dawn Adolfson

Position
PhD Candidate
How Did You Join the ISLT Program at FSU?
I joined the program in Spring 2018 after working for a few years at Tallahassee State College and wanting to learn more about how technology can enhance education.
Introduction
My name is Dawn Adolfson, I’m a native Floridian, and I have lived in Tallahassee since 2013. I originally came to FSU to earn my Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus in foreign and second language education. I worked at Tallahassee State College as an adult education specialist, program coordinator, and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) instructor. After completing my PhD coursework in the ISLT program, I decided to pursue a full-time career in instructional design in the higher education field.
Currently, I am a Learning Designer at the University of South Florida, Innovative Education. In this role, I work collaboratively with faculty and subject matter experts to design and develop high quality online courses through an intentional, human-centered process that shifts the focus from content delivery to student-centered learning experiences. The process we use is informed by ADDIE, design thinking, collaborative problem solving, and sound pedagogical practices.
Research Interests
My research interests include best practices for online learning in higher education, quality assurance standards and rubrics, student perceptions of online learning experiences, and student persistence in online courses.
My dissertation is focused on student perceptions of learning objectives in online courses and the relationship between self-regulated learning skills and those perceptions.
